What is Somatic Experiencing® (SE)?

Somatic Experiencing®, developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine, is a body-based approach to healing trauma and supporting nervous system regulation.It’s based on the understanding that trauma isn’t caused by the event itself, but by the survival energy that got stuck in the body when things were too much, too fast, or too overwhelming.SE is not talk therapy.It focuses less on what happened and more on how your body experiences things today.This work is helpful for:anxiety,freeze response,hypervigilance,dissociation (depersonalization/derealization),chronic tension,neurodivergent overwhelm.

 

🌱 How does SE work?

 

We gently follow:sensations,micro-movements,impulses,the natural rhythm between tension and release.This allows the nervous system to complete what it once had to interrupt — running, protecting, pushing away, trembling, pausing, saying no… anything that couldn’t happen safely back then.The process is not dramatic.It’s subtle, slow, and deeply regulating.🧠

 

Why does it work?

Because the nervous system doesn’t heal through logic — it heals through:rhythm,attention,connection,safety. SE doesn’t force memories to appear. It helps the system reorganize from the inside out.

SE does not push or overwhelm. It follows your body’s pace.
